> The theme of this hackathon is “IoT for Cities”
>
> IoT, which stands for the “Internet of Things,” focuses on machine-to-machine communication that’s built on cloud computing and data-gathering sensors. It’s the idea of making anything in our lives (from streetlights to thermostats to cement) “smart.”
> Think:
> · smart fitness gadgets that track your body functions and can later be analyzed on your computer.
> · smart home thermostats that learn your habits, check the weather forecast and adapt accordingly.
> · smart cement that senses ice on the road, communicates with your car, then notifies you to slow down.
> Ready to play? Choose one of two tracks.
> For our techies & coders: This first track is purely for coding and “hacking.” Our startup digimondo (www.digimondo.de and more info attached) will give you access to their LoRaWAN network (installed at the Euref campus) and give you exclusive training on their developer boards. Then it’s your turn to develop a high-potential use case on the hardware side, software side or both. You’ll connect any “data-producing-device” (e.g. sensors, data loggers, etc.) to your developer board, prototype your never-seen device and/or code a potential app to capitalize on your collected data.
> For our business developers: This second track is for anyone with an entrepreneurial drive. You’ll develop a new business idea in 27 hours with enthusiastic people of diverse backgrounds. What do future customers need? How will IoT for Cities make money and drive economies? Put your knowledge and creativity to the test all while experiencing the excitement of building a business.

>
> What else can you expect? The unexpected! The possibilities of these events are endless. But you can expect:
> · Tons of coaching from credible experts and the :agile team.
> · Connecting with other passionate marketers, developers, artists, salespeople, engineers, managers and more.
>
> Who can participate? Everybody! Bring your own idea to develop or join another team. For inspiration, check out our mind-map picture or read more about our startups.
>
> What can you win? Awards for “most innovative,” “best pitch” and “best overall” will be rewarded as usual, BUT our extra prizes include:
> · free access of up to 50 devices on digimondo’s LoRa network
> · 1000 € for the best LoRa use case
> · 1000 € for the best city solution
>
> Lange Nacht der Startups
> The hackathon is a satellite event of Lange Nacht der Startups. All participants are invited to join the event and the FREE afterparty! Lange Nacht der Startups starts at 5 pm in different locations. Check out their website for further information: http://www.startupnight.de/
